主要内容：Ship ballast water transfer marine species and diseases from one location to others which has   caused serious damage of marine ecological systems. To prevent the problem, International Maritime Organisation (IMO) adopted an international convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM) on 13 Feb 2004. Due to complexity of ballast water management and lack of technology for treatment, the IMO ballast convention is yet in force now.

     The presentation summaries the latest status of implementation of IMO convention, illustrates technologies available for ballast water treatment and concept design of ships without using ballast water.
